Love is all O-round.

This month we had two very good reasons to clear the decks and order too much pizza.

Neil O’s retirement and David’s 50th lap around the sun.
Two milestones. Both worth marking properly.

The date landed just after Valentine’s Day, which gave us a loose theme. An O Street love-in, minus the cheesy roses and candlelight.

So we filled the space with red balloons, pulled together our favourite love songs, and invited the people who’ve been part of the story; old faces and new ones. We even made semi-permanent declarations of love with O Street themed temporary tattoos. Rumour has it they’re still being scrubbed off forearms and foreheads today.

Anyone who knows Neil knows he’s a wordsmith.

So we built a generative poetry box. At the press of a button it produces a new poem; little love notes to creativity, collaboration and of course, graphic design. Kerning appeared. So did longing. Sometimes in the same line. Some read like they’d been carefully composed and others felt like happy accidents. Each was printed onto receipt paper: small, slightly imperfect and easy to slip into your pocket only to find days later.

And at the end of the night, studio guest Cahalen Morrison serenaded us with a stripped-back folk set that capped off the celebrations. Big love to everyone that joined us and remember love is all O-round.
